AMERICAN BEHAVIORAL EARNS URAC REACCREDITATION
Birmingham, Ala. – July 8, 2008 — American Behavioral announced today that it has been awarded reaccreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry. The company was reaccredited under URAC’s Health Utilization Management Standards.
“American Behavioral believes in maintaining the highest standard of excellence for the companies, employees and families that we serve,” said Maureen Gleason, vice president of operations for American Behavioral. “Attaining reaccreditation with URAC demonstrates our continued commitment to providing responsive, ethical and professional services — the core tenets of our corporate philosophy.”
Health Utilization Management Standards require an organization to establish and implement a three-step process to determine necessity of a proposed treatment or service. Throughout the utilization management process, American Behavioral utilizes explicit clinical review criteria based on sound clinical principles and processes and are reviewed and revised on a periodic basis.
“By applying for and receiving Health Utilization Management Accreditation, American Behavioral has demonstrated a commitment to quality health care,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. “Quality health care is crucial to our nation’s welfare and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards.”
